    Headache After Hair Dye

Headache after hair dye happens most frequently. So, many people think that it’s normal. Headache is nothing but a side effect of hair dye. There may be many reasons behind the problem.

When an individual use hair dye, if he has hypersensitivity toward the dying agent an allergic reaction occurs.

As a result of an allergic reaction, the headache starts. Not only the allergic reaction of the user but also some other causes may responsible for a headache including the agent itself.

Causes Of Headache After Hair Dye

If your hair coloring product is of poor quality, it’s possible that a few chemicals may cause migraines.

Obviously, the hair dye used to activate color will linger on your hair and scalp for quite some time.

There are many reasons behind the headache after dying. They have a positive impact on headaches.

The following are a few of them that I would like to share with you :

    headache after dying hair

    Allergic Reaction

If the user is sensitive to PPD, an allergic reaction takes place. The reaction can take place in any part of the body like the scalp, face, or skin anywhere, and may develop the rash.

Therefore, it also causes headaches after dying hair.

    Stress

Physical stress during applying hair dye is another major cause of headaches.

To apply the dye and foil the hair needs to pull tightly which is stressful to the scalp.

Besides, the overall process takes hours which is too stressful for the body.

    Scent Triggers

Depending on the ingredients of hair dye, it may cause headaches. For example, bleach is one of the major culprits of headaches. In most cases bleach causes headaches.

Sometimes, the strong odor of the drying agent may also create a migraine problem.

So, select the dye which is free from bad smell and agent that is allergic for you.

    Surrounding Environment

Sometimes without the previous causes, there is a chance of headache.

In the salon different manicure fumes, chemicals, hairdryers sound, fluorescent light, perfumes, etc are available.

These may trigger migraine and result in headaches.

The Best Way To Get Rid Of Headaches After Hair Dye

You should always try to avoid those dyes to which you have sensitivity. Be careful.

Therefore, there is a chance of developing a headache. Everyone wonders the same thing: can long hair cause headaches? Yes, it does happen to me sometimes.

So, you must know the remedy to get rid of the headache after hair dye. The remedies are given below :

    headache after hair dye

    1. Apply Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is suitable for rinsing the hair. So, you can use a 2% Hydrogen Peroxide solution to rinse hair.

Therefore, it will completely oxidize the PPD and make the PPD inactive.

This way it prevents PPD-mediated headaches.

    1. Apply Creams & Emollients

Generally, the cream contains alcohol or similar chemical that are irritants to the skin. You can use natural cream or a mixture of olive oil and lime as an alternative.

Steroidal cream gives protection against inflammation and allergic reaction.

A parenteral steroid cream will be effective in less severe conditions. But oral steroids will be effective in more severe conditions.

    1. Perform Patch Test

Perform a patch test before applying the hair dye. Normally the doctor does the test.

For this, a small amount of hair dye keep in the skin chambers of the upper back and observe the allergic reaction.

In the case of oxidizing dyes, one can perform the home-based test.

For this, the hair dye mixture should be placed behind the ear. Observe the allergic reaction of the agent and select the appropriate one.

    1. The Use Of PPD As An Alternative

PPD is one of the major culprits of hair dye-mediated headaches. The use of a PPD alternative may be a major treatment here.

Many of the dyes are available in the market but the limitation is the limited color range.

Here, I’ll share some of these with you.

    • Henna

Henna is one such dye that does not contain PPD. The main component of henna is crushed plant material.

Mainly, the Color range of henna is from orangish to red-brown depending on other components and the preparation procedure.

Henna is relatively free from allergic reactions. To make sure about irritation you can perform a patch test.

    • Other Dyes

Some other dyes may act as PPD alternatives. In this case, you can choose semi-permanent hair dye or lead-based hair dye.

Before using those consult with a dermatologist and select the one which suits you.

    1. Ensure Hygienic Environment

Ensuring a hygienic environment is another important way to get rid of headaches. There should be a fume management system in the salon.

There must be a good sound regulating system.

An ideal salon must be designed in such a way as to provide a comfortable environment to clients and must also be hygienic.

    Hair Dyeing Headache Prevention Tips

A few precautions should be taken before and throughout the hair-dying process to avoid headaches.

    • Before you dye the rest of your hair, you should put hair dye on your scalp. This makes it less likely that your scalp will get irritated.

    • If you want to use a color that lightens, do it at night and wash it out in the morning before you get dressed for work. This will make it possible to be less exposed to light during the day, which will help reduce headaches if they happen.

    • If you want to dye your hair a darker color, like black, ensure your skin is well-hydrated so there are no dry spots or cracks that could irritate.

    • Instead of waiting until your roots are black, you might want to use a lighter shade of hair dye on top of them.

I want to share some headache-relieving eye masks with you that help you relieve the pain of dying your hair. This way, you can fully enjoy the trendy hair color that you have chosen.
